European Union

Composed of 27 member states, the European Union (EU) is a political and economic union of European countries, created to promote peace, prosperity, integration, democratic values, stability across the continent, and more, thus regulating trade, the single market, implementing legislation, and managing developmental, research, and educational programs. The bloc was created in 1993, in the Netherlands, and is now a model for combining cooperation between states with common institutions. Given that, the EU's headquarters are spread across several cities: Brussels, Belgium, Strasbourg, France, and Luxembourg City, Luxembourg.
Therefore, to encourage profound debates, the delegations in SALMUN 2025 will be discussing Strengthening EU's Collective Defense and Strategic Autonomy Amid Global Uncertainty and Addressing Democratic Backsliding in EU Member States, topics A and B, respectively. Moreover, delegates will be challenged to balance national and EU interests and to consider political flaws when arguing and writing their resolutions with diplomacy, cooperation, and problem-solving skills.
