United Nations Security Council

Composed of 5 permanent and 10 rotational members, where the 5 permanent members have the power to veto any resolution, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is one of the six original organs of the UN. It was created in 1945 following WWII to ensure international security and peace, and its headquarters are currently located in New York City, United States. The UNSC is the only organ of the UN that can recommend new member-states to the UN General Assembly, approve changes to the UN Charter, establish peacekeeping operations, enact international sanctions, and authorize military action. In other words, the Security Council is the only committee that can ratify binding resolutions and subject them to UN member states.

Delegates are expected to utilize courtesy, ethics, cooperation, and respect in all cases, without exceptions, in order to bring a valuable and meaningful debate. Furthermore, the topics chosen are not only key players in global diplomacy, representing impasses for peace in Europe as well as persistence of tensions between what are known as Western and Eastern powers, but also an opportunity for you to engage into a fun and enriching debate. Moreover, throughout the debate, delegates will be able to understand how political influence can change the course of a whole situation, as well as how tensions over cultural differences highlight the frailty and nescience of human beings.

At last, delegates will stand in front of everyone with the courage to discuss and solve problems that many diplomats cannot, being required to come to this debate with an open mind to new ideas, divergences, and to dive as deep as they can within each of the topics.
